It goes without saying that Kate Middleton loves to recycle her wardrobe. Just 12 days after wearing a $2,000 Emilia Wickstead coast dress to a luncheon at Windsor Castle, she turns up wearing the exact same thing last week to a tea party in Buckingham Palace. What would her late mother in law, Princess Diana, who rarely wore the same thing twice, say about that?
This is not the first time the Duchess has been seen wearing the same outfit. She often attends functions in attire she has previously worn and doesn’t hesitate to borrow clothes from her mother or sister as well. Last July she wore a green Diane von Furstenberg dress while in Los Angeles, then was photographed wearing the same dress at a pre-wedding party two weeks later.
The Queen is said to approve of her granddaughter-in-law’s thriftiness. It is reported that growing up during World War II, the Queen would often make sacrifices and appreciates that Kate has a healthy respect for the tough times many in England are facing. The Queen herself has recycled outfits in the past. The dress she wore to William and Kate’s wedding was recycled with slight alterations and worn on her Australian tour.
In the meantime, no one is happier with Kate’s repeat dress style than the designers themselves who get double the publicity.
“We are happy, delighted and excited to see Kate in one of our designs,” said a spokesperson for designer Wickstead. We bet they are.
