The trial of one time presidential candidate John Edwards, who is accused of campaign finance violations, took a dramatic turn yesterday when testimony from his former advisor proved too much for Edward’s daughter, Cate who fled the courtroom in tears.
Christina Reynolds testified that Elizabeth Edwards was despondent when learning of her husband’s affair with Rielle Hunter. Storming away from her husband, Elizabeth fell to the ground outside a airport hanger before being escorted into a restroom by Reynolds and another aide. But several minutes later, in an emotional state, she ran to confront her husband by taking off her blouse, exposing her chest and screaming, “You don’t see me anymore!” She had gone through surgery to treat her breast cancer several years before.
Just prior to Reynolds giving her testimony, Edwards leaned to his daughter and suggested she may want to leave the courtroom, which she immediately did. As Reynolds went into details, Edwards covered his face with his hands.
Cate returned to the courthouse after a recess. The trial is set to last for another six weeks.
