John Edwards Doubted He Was Father of Rielle Hunter’s Baby

John Edwards was none to happy when he learned in 2007 that his mistress, Rielle Hunter, was pregnant.  Calling her a “crazy slut,” Edwards believed he had a one-in-three chance of being the father according to his former aide, Andrew Young, who testified during the former presidential candidates criminal trial.  Edwards is accused of misappropriating $1 million dollars in campaign funds to keep his affair with Hunter under wraps while he sought the presidency.  The affair occurred at the same time Edward’s wife, Elizabeth, was suffering from cancer.

According to Martin, Edwards was furious when he learned Hunter was pregnant and advised Martin to “take care of it.”  Hunter later went on to give birth to a baby girl.

The New York Post is now reporting the relationship between Edwards and Hunter has cooled in recent years.  While he pays child support and visits the child regularly, there doesn’t seem to be much affection between the couple according to people who have seen them occasionally.

The trial, which started on Monday, is scheduled to last for six weeks.  If convicted, Edwards faces up to 30 years in jail.
